Just when I thought the Diablo III announcement would be the most exciting videogame announcement of the summer, Square Enix, those buggers behind the Final Fantasy and Dragon Quest series of Role-playing Games (RPGs), made a stealth announcement that rocked my world… and the world of anyone interested in old school RPGs.

It started with this image:

which got me all hot and bothered. But, always the pragmatist, I wouldn’t let myself get too excited. Then astute NeoGAF poster GoldandBlue found this.

The Official Chrono Trigger DS Web Site

A teaser web site with a very iconic shot of a clock and a ticking noise that is unmistakably from Chrono Trigger, the fabled Super Nintendo RPG that many (myself included) place at the top of the RPG pedestal. A release on the Nintendo DS will allow a whole new generation to experience the game and make up their own minds about where it fits in the echelon of gaming. There is no word whether it will be a sequel, a remake or even just a straight up port.

Odds are, Square Enix was probably saving this announcement for the upcoming Electronic Entertainment Expo, but the leak has more or less set Internet message boards aflame. It should be an interesting couple of weeks coming up.

The good folk over at Fantasybookspot have an exclusive three-chapter excerpt from Tobias Buckell’s upcoming novel, Sly Mongoose.

I was a huge fan of his first two novels, Crystal Rain (REVIEW) and Ragamuffin (REVIEW), and my sights are set high to Buckell’s third outing. Plus, with such a great cover it’s gotta be good, right?
