Saw this on the Westeros Forums and thought it was worth a laugh. The UK cover art for Scott Lynch’s upcoming The Republic of Thieves:
The Republic of Thieves by Scott Lynch

Hmm… looks familiar, eh?

The Bastards and the Knives by Scott Lynch

Wait? Is that the previously released cover for his supposed set of novellas, The Bastards and the Knives? Why, yes, yes it is! That certainly can’t bode well for it being released any time soon.

The US Cover was released a few months ago and can be found HERE.

I think it’s sad they had to use a photo from inside Saint Peter’s Basilica in Rome — for two books, no less! Come on, publishers, step your game up please! Anyone can create that cover.

Well, it’s better than the WoT covers. :D

Given that the Bastards and the Knives release is still two years or more away (US release + 18 months under the exclusivity contract), it’s perhaps not surprising that they decided to save some art budget by using the existing art.

What I am surprised by is that they are using the same single-colour, slightly diffuse ‘reality’ pictures they used on the first two tradebacks before switching to the more fantastical, character-based paperbacks. I’d assumed they’d be using the latter for future tradebacks as well. Excellent news for those of us who hav the tradebacks and want to keep them in the same style.

Agreed Gabriele, better than The Gathering Storm… hopefully just a placeholder cover…
