Salvatore wrote Mortalis after his brother passed away from Cancer, I believe. It’s not a happy novel, but it’s emotionally wrenching and pure in a way that most of Salvatore’s novels aren’t.

It took one of my most reviled characters from the first three novels and turned him into my absolute favourite character Salvatore’s ever written.

Thanks for the info, Aidan. I’ll have to give it another shot. I see that there are Kindle versions of all 7. Oh, and I have heard many say that Mortalis is his best book. He wrote it while going through some tragedy in his own life, right?

The magic system becomes pretty well defined, and, in fact, I was constantly reminded of Salvatore’s work while reading Brandon Sanderson’s Mistborn series. As the series goes on, more and more politics and religion starts to influence the plot and it really gets interesting.

The fourth book, Mortalis, is easily my favourite book by Salvatore.

I own all 7 of these in mmpb, and read the first one. Really had trouble with the magic. Didn’t seem like the stones had any limitations on them..so they magic could pretty much do anything. At least thats what I remember from book 1, and is why I put down book 2 within the first 100 pages a few years ago. Maybe I’ll get around to trying it again sometime.

I read most of the Forgotten Realms and they were awesome. Can’t wait to get my hand on this one!
