As for the reviews, our timing does seem impeccable! You’re right that it also happened earlier this year with The Angel’s Game and we had opposite reactions to the novel based on the same facets of the novel. For whatever reason, I enjoy novels with slightly caustic characters and difficult relationships. The Catcher in the Rye is the only novel I remember actually being grateful for when I was forced to read it in High School.

As I mentioned on your blog, I think it’s great to see strong, articulated opinions from both sides of that spectrum, especially when they’re posted concurrently!

Trying to repeat it: once again we post a review at the same time with completetely different reactions! The reasons why I disliked it are the reasons why you loved it so much and I think that is probably because, as readers, we are in opposite ends of the spectrum when it comes to characters: If I recall correctly this happened earlier this year with Angel’s Game by Carlos Ruiz Zafon as well….
