Nights of Villjamur by Mark Charan Newton (US Edition)

The Mad Hatter, who has some uncanny ability to dig out Cover Art before it’s supposed to be revealed, posted the artwork for the US edition of Mark Charan Newton’s Nights of Villjamur.

Over all I think the cover is solid, but for one (major) caveat. I like that they’ve strayed away from the figure-centric cover that’s been plaguing the other releases of Newton’s novels, and I like the typhography (especially with the cool looking white stuff behind the title), but wow did they completely miss the tone of the novel. A bright sunny day? Is that supposed to be Villjamur? In any case, the novel’s bloody good, this is just a strange decision by the Bantam Spectra marketing team.

    My cover Woo is strong.

I agree with you on the tone. Everything I’ve read suggests it is a very dark book in a dark city.

Yep, very dark book in a very dark city in a very dark world. The tone’s off, but otherwise I quite like the cover. It’s certainly my favourite of Newton’s cover since the original UK Hardcover.

Anyone else find it hilarious that book is titled “NIGHTS of Villjamur” and yet they have a day scene on the cover? I mean, just leaving tone aside for a moment…that’s still like a visual oxymoron.

    Good point.

I like the entire cover except for the blues at the top. Those are bright, happy blues. If they darkened up those blues to be a closer indicator of the purpling approaching night, they’d have a winner on their hands.

That would’ve been all it needed to capture the novel, Shawn.

This pictures bears an uncanny resemblence to the view of my home town’s old wall this morning (after last night’s massive snow fall). Curious.

I still prefer the cover of the UK hardback.
But what is a cover without a strong story……and Nights of Villjamur is damned good!

I agree that the tone is off, but I have to say I love this cover as a piece of art. It’s just beautiful.
