I stumbled across this the other day and thought there might be some interest, since so many of you are also fans of Game of Thrones. This concept art was created by artist Kimberley Pope in the early stages of development for Game of Thrones, helping to solidify the foundations for the ‘look’ of the show as it brought George R.R. Martin’s words to life. Beautiful stuff.

More art can be found on Pope’s official website, including a handful of images that give us an idea of what some pivotal scenes from A Clash of Kings (like, say… the Battle of Blackwater) will look like when their time comes in the second season of Game of Thrones. My one question, though, is “How the heck did they get that dragon skull through that tiny door?”

Maybe they built it around the Dragon skull?

That first pic of Pyke looks like a drunken version of Dunottar Castle. :)

Though I have to say some of her ruins (Harrenhal) crumble a bit unrealistically – some of it looks too spiky. I’ve seen my share of them, and fe. the framing masonry of windows only survives if the vault on top remains intact as well, else they will crumble and there will only be a few layers (how many depends on the material) of stonework left, not several metres worth of it. this would be the same Gothic style architecture, and you see that there’s either the vault left, or nothing much at all (the metal supposrts are modern, ot course).
