Han Solo, Art by Mark Raats

Han Solo, Art by Mark Raats

Huh. Some interesting news out of NYC Comic Con:

The other big announcement was the reveal of a third book in the upcoming “Rebels” standalone novels, all of which focus on the main characters in the original trilogy and which take place between Star Wars and The Empire Strikes Back.

The new book, focused on Han Solo, will be written by James S. A. Corey, otherwise known as Daniel Abraham and Ty Franck, the authors of the well-received space opera Leviathan Wakes (and its recent sequel Caliban’s War).

Han Solo, Chewie, Daniel Abraham and Ty Franck all combining forces? Will this be the third Star Wars novel that I ever read? Maybe.

I’m in. I can see their style and characterizations lending themselves well to the existing Star Wars milieu.

I just hope they remember to send Pat his review copy this time.

Wow, just wow…I have no idea if this is the coolest thing ever, the weirdest thing ever, or just the worst thing ever.

I am so stoked about this – such a delightful surprise. Been a while since I read a Star Wars books (the zombie one, which I enjoyed). This should be buckets of fun! (Will there be vomit zombies of the Imperial variety?)

I’ve read and re-read the three Brian Daley Han Solo novels many, many times in my life. They were my gateway into science fiction novels and have a special place in my heart. Given when this one is supposed to be set I’ll be on board for picking it up for certain.

Oh, this is gonna be good.

Only two? You might want to try Timothy Zahn’s. They do stand out among many mediocre Star Wars EU books.
