{"id":163,"date":"2008-05-08T20:23:29","date_gmt":"2008-05-09T04:23:29","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/aidanmoher.com\/blog\/?p=163"},"modified":"2008-06-05T10:41:02","modified_gmt":"2008-06-05T18:41:02","slug":"an-aside-what-makes-for-a-good-title","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/aidanmoher.com\/blog\/2008\/05\/news\/an-aside-what-makes-for-a-good-title\/","title":{"rendered":"I Ask You | What Makes for a Good Title?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Over at <a href=\"http:\/\/www.shawncspeakman.com\/blog\/2008\/05\/artist-portals.html\">Shawn Speakman&#8217;s blog<\/a>, though unrelated to the original post, he and I started to discuss titles for novels, mostly concerning the two we are working on, and it got me thinking in general about some of my favourite titles out there.<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;ve always been a fan of poetic titles \u00e2\u20ac\u201c <strong>The Blade Itself<\/strong>, <strong>The Darkness That Comes Before<\/strong>, <strong>The Wooden Sea<\/strong>, <strong>Blood Follows<\/strong>, <strong>A Breath of Snow and Ashes<\/strong>, <strong>The Lies of Locke Lamora<\/strong> \u00e2\u20ac\u201c but they obviously don&#8217;t always fit every sort of novel. There are plenty of more traditional titles that I really like as well \u00e2\u20ac\u201c <strong>The Book of Joby<\/strong>, <strong>Faith of the Fallen<\/strong>, <strong>The Naked God<\/strong>, <strong>Wizard and Glass<\/strong>, <strong>The Name of the Wind<\/strong>, <strong>To Green Angel Tower<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>So I thought to myself, &#8216;why not ask my readers!&#8217; It was a pretty brilliant idea, so I ask:<\/p>\n<p class=\"center\"><strong>What are some of your favourite titles?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"center\">and<\/p>\n<p class=\"center\"><strong>What, in your opinion, makes for a good title?<\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Over at Shawn Speakman&#8217;s blog, though unrelated to the original post, he and I started to discuss titles for novels, mostly concerning the two we are working on, and it got me thinking in general about some of my favourite titles out there.
