{"id":2037,"date":"2009-10-15T07:44:43","date_gmt":"2009-10-15T15:44:43","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/aidanmoher.com\/blog\/?p=2037"},"modified":"2009-10-15T07:44:43","modified_gmt":"2009-10-15T15:44:43","slug":"an-aside-suvudu-chats-with-terry-brooks-and-christopher-paolini","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/aidanmoher.com\/blog\/2009\/10\/news\/an-aside-suvudu-chats-with-terry-brooks-and-christopher-paolini\/","title":{"rendered":"An Aside | Suvudu chats with Terry Brooks and Christopher Paolini"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"center\">\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"http:\/\/www.coveritlive.com\/index2.php\/option=com_altcaster\/task=viewaltcast\/altcast_code=3ed8f8858d\/height=600\/width=450\" scrolling=\"no\" height=\"600px\" width=\"450px\" frameBorder=\"0\" ><a href=\"http:\/\/www.coveritlive.com\/mobile.php?option=com_mobile&#038;task=viewaltcast&#038;altcast_code=3ed8f8858d\" >Christopher Paolini and Terry Brooks Chat<\/a><\/iframe><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>Last night, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.suvudu.com\/\">Suvudu<\/a> readers had a chance to take part in a one-hour moderated chat with <a href=\"http:\/\/www.terrybrooks.net\">Terry Brooks<\/a>, author of the <strong>Shannara<\/strong> and <strong>Magic Kingdom of Landover<\/strong> series, and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.alagaesia.com\/\">Christopher Paolini<\/a>, author of <strong>Eragon<\/strong> and the <strong>Inheritence<\/strong> series, and toss questions at them.<\/p>\n<p>The chat itself was alright, but I was disappointed to only have one of my questions chosen (apparently they weren&#8217;t as compelling as &#8220;Terry and Chrisopher, what are your favorite snacks for when you are writting?&#8221; or &#8220;will the last eragon book have more pages than the other 3?&#8221;). My question that <em>did<\/em> get through the moderators:<\/p>\n<div class=\"quote\">\n<p><strong>Me<\/strong> &#8211; Terry: As an established writer, what kind of advice do you have for a young writer like Christopher when it comes to handling the criticism that&#8217;s inherent in having a career in a creative art?<\/p>\n<p><strong>Paolini<\/strong> &#8211; Great question.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Brooks<\/strong> &#8211; I would tell Christopher that everything changes as you grow, and be prepared to abandon everything you thought you knew at some point.   You have to learn flexibility.   You also have to remember that this is fun before anything or it isn&#8217;t worth it.   Also, you have to listen to your instincts.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Paolini<\/strong> &#8211; I&#8217;ll do my best to keep that in mind.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>It would have been nice to see the readers challenge the authors a bit more, dig a bit deeper with their questions, but I suppose that&#8217;s the charm of these chats: it allows regular readers (meaning: not jaded, asshole bloggers like me) to get a chance to pick the brains of these authors.
