{"id":3649,"date":"2010-05-13T09:10:06","date_gmt":"2010-05-13T17:10:06","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/aidanmoher.com\/blog\/?p=3649"},"modified":"2010-05-13T09:10:06","modified_gmt":"2010-05-13T17:10:06","slug":"an-aside-china-mieville-space-opera-my-mind-explodes","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/aidanmoher.com\/blog\/2010\/05\/news\/an-aside-china-mieville-space-opera-my-mind-explodes\/","title":{"rendered":"An Aside | China Mieville + Space Opera = My Mind Explodes"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/aidanmoher.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/05\/china-mieville-pic.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/aidanmoher.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/05\/china-mieville-pic-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"China Mieville\" title=\"China Mieville\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" class=\"author_pic_right\" \/><\/a>From an <a href=\"http:\/\/scyfilove.com\/2201\/china-mieville-exclusive-interview-monsters-method-bas-lag-and-kraken\/\">interview with Mieville<\/a> (via <a href=\"http:\/\/www.walkerofworlds.com\/2010\/05\/news-china-mievilles-next-book-is-sci.html\">Walker of Worlds<\/a>):<\/p>\n<div class=\"quote\">\n<p>I was left wondering how he finds time to write given the range of references and interests he revealed in his conversation, be that politics, pouring over old horror novels by   HP Lovecraft or chaotically catching up with modern writers \u2013 Nick Mamatas and  Helen Oyeyemi were two he mentioned as well worth a look.<\/p>\n<p><strong>However he revealed his next book is already with his editor \u2013 \u2019science fiction, aliens and spaceships, but I don\u2019t want to give too much away\u2019 \u2013 and should be out next year, while adding he has a bunch of books in mind that he wants to write in the future.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Could a return to  Bas-Lag be among them?<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m certainly not bored of Bas-Lag or anything like that and it would be easy for me to go back there,\u201d he said. \u201cBut the books I wrote about Bas Lag had an arc to them and matter a lot to me.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI don\u2019t want to undermine that, so my argument would be it would have to be a story that really needed to be in that setting.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe can all think of franchises that milked themselves dry too and can end up killing the thing you love by doing that. So I will be staying away for a while yet, although I do have a long term idea in mind,\u201d he added, with just the right air of mystery.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>Reading China Mieville sometimes makes my brain hurt. Reading Science Fiction sometimes makes my brain hurt. Slap the two of them together and you get the most enjoyable migraine the world&#8217;s ever seen.
