Ensign Andrew Dahl looked out the window of Earth Dock, the Universal Union\u2019s space station above the planet Earth, and gazed at his next ship.<\/p>\n

He gazed at the Intrepid.<\/p>\n

\u201cBeautiful, isn\u2019t she?\u201d said a voice.<\/p>\n

Dahl turned to see a young woman, dressed in a starship ensign\u2019s uniform, also looking out toward the ship.<\/p>\n

\u201cShe is,\u201d Dahl agreed.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe Universal Union Capital Ship Intrepid,\u201d the young woman said. \u201cBuilt in 2453 at the Mars Dock. Flagship of the Universal Union since 2456. First captain, Genevieve Shan. Lucius Abernathy, captain since 2462.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cAre you the Intrepid\u2019s tour guide?\u201d Dahl asked, smiling.<\/p>\n

\u201cAre you a tourist?\u201d the young woman asked, smiling back.<\/p>\n

\u201cNo,\u201d Dahl said, and held out his hand. \u201cAndrew Dahl. I\u2019ve been assigned to the Intrepid. I\u2019m just waiting on the 1500 shuttle.\u201d<\/p>\n

The young woman took his hand. \u201cMaia Duvall,\u201d she said. \u201cAlso assigned to the Intrepid. Also waiting on the 1500 shuttle.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cWhat a coincidence,\u201d Dahl said.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
