Amazon.com has recently acquired a hand-scribed copy of The Tales of Beedle the Bard<\/strong>, one of only seven copies of a story that astute Potter-fans will recognize from the seventh novel in the series, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Amazon.com spent a whopping \u00c2\u00a31,950,000, further proving that they have way<\/em> too much money. The coolest thing about it, though, is that Ms. Rowling will be donating the proceeds to The Children’s Voice campaign<\/a>. Here’s a bit pulled from the Amazon.com page about the auction.

We’re incredibly excited to announce that Amazon has purchased J.K. Rowling\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s The Tales of Beedle the Bard at an auction held by Sotheby\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s in London. The book of five wizarding fairy tales, referenced in the last book of the Harry Potter series, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, is one of only seven handmade copies in existence. The purchase price was \u00c2\u00a31,950,000, and Ms. Rowling is donating the proceeds to The Children’s Voice campaign<\/a>, a charity she co-founded to help improve the lives of institutionalized children across Europe.<\/p>\n

The Tales of Beedle the Bard is extensively illustrated and handwritten by the bard herself–all 157 pages of it. It’s bound in brown Moroccan leather and embellished with five hand-chased hallmarked sterling silver ornaments and mounted moonstones.<\/p>\n
