    Oh dear.

Also, Baen. They’re not exactly known for their quality covers.

Maybe they’ll get lucky and DAW will decide that the zombie raccoon anthology cover should be the start of a new trend…and then we’ll all forget about Baen again.

If there’s one thing about Baen covers, it’s that you recognize them immediately. Usually they’re bad in a campy, feel good way… this one is just bad.

  • Joseph January 2, 2010 at 5:52 pm

And I thought some covers were bad…

Truly stunning … and not in a good way.

    That’s a joke isn’t it?!

I kinda liked this collection of Anderson’s work but the covers have been awful from the start and going downhill steadily. I’m afraid part five isn’t much better. A real shame they didn’t pay slightly more attention to the cover art.

    Hahaha.

I noticed this back in May when Amazon first unveiled it. :)

Granted, Flandry does do the James Bond thing, but my eyes rolled when I saw it.

Check out the cover for Captain Flandry. It’s not *as* bad, but it is clearly using the same cover design.

Well, Mr. Anderson just rolled over in his grave and vomited a fine mixture of dirt and liquid flesh…this is why I’ve never purchased as Baen book. There might be a good story under the cover, but I refuse to cover my bookshelf with stuff that looks like that. I have a reputation to uphold…

    Here, Here, SMD!

  • Shawn January 3, 2010 at 10:00 am

Is your reputation as tarnished as mine? ;)

If I ever met a man with that book in his hand or in his collection, I’d cross him off the list of potential friends, boyfriends, or mates. Really, what king of person wouldn’t be ashamed to buy a book with that cover no matter how good the story and writing were. Is Baen deliberately trying to keep women away?

  • SMD January 3, 2010 at 4:09 pm

No, I don’t think I actually have a reputation, except for occasionally stirring up trouble.

I find it amusing. I’d rather be seen reading a book with this cover than the crap TOR put on the WoT books.

But it may be different for a male reader.

One cringes to think what Baen could do with the Hoka series bookcovers.

Toni is just continuing Jim’s stated effort to “drag science fiction back down in the gutter where it belongs”.

If you do not see the modernized John Campbell in the Baen covers, then you are no student of science fiction history. I for one am grateful that Baen is reissuing the old classics, hopefully to attract a new generation of fans.

    Anderson deserves better.
