read the series, the installments are short are very enjoyable. These new covers kick ass too, I like the black company moreso than the dread empire, but they are all good.
You can give the cantankerous old guy a break. His books are more than worth it. I’ve been waiting over a year already to read Soldier’s Live b/c it’s out of print and no one is selling it a reasonable price. Can’t wait, cant wait !!! When does this come out?
Glen Cook might be a little old school, but I think his occasional crankiness is usually justified – I mean, asking an author who has been published for over 25 years and has written close to 30 novels to “tell us about your books” is utterly pointless. Can see why that sort of question would piss him off – it would certainly annoy me.
I love these covers a lot too. And I am a big fan of Raymond Swanland (I am very happy that I got the chance to make an interview with him). He made many covers for Wizards of the Coast as well and I love those too. I hope to see more of his works in the future :)
For a very good interview with Cook by Jeff VanderMeer (who is an admitted fan of Cook) go HERE.
I think he’s retired from that factory (and I think it may have been GM).
As for being prolific, yes very. He has three major fantasy series, a relatively new fantasy series, plus a good handful of standalones in both SF and fantasy.
There is also a <a href=http://www.glencook.org/index.php/Main_PageWiki dedicated to him
I think that he’s got so many omnibuses because he A: he was considered something of a jobber so nobody bothered to reprint his stuff, and B: Night Shade Books is in love with the omnibus.
Which is entirely okay with me, because I like the idea of Massive Tomes. If paper-print books are going to become novelty, a luxury item, an affectation, then dammit I want to have something _substantial_, something that says “hey look I’m READING A BOOK here”.
Hey Aidan, due to my investigations the name of the artist is
Raymond Swanland.
And his covers are awesome.
I can always count on you!
Thanks edifanob.
You’re welcome. Always a pleasure to support and of course to read your posts :)

In what interview (aside from the already referenced interview with Pat) was Cook ‘cranky?’
That interview with Pat was funny.
anrake – Amazon has it listed as a January 2010 release.
I’m just trying to figure out how this guy seems to have more omnibusses than most authors have novels! Talk about prolific.
I remember reading he works full time at some kind of factory, like a Ford plant or something too. The guy just loves to write.

I’ll check that out. Thanks, Rob.
