Steven Erikson, photo by Fazal MajidPat, from the wonderful Pat’s Fantasy Hot List (check it out!), just released details of a press release concerning Steven Erikson, his Malazan series, and all the fun stuff that will be going on in 2008!

Here’s what he had to say:

Erikson’s publicist just forwarded me a press release which indicates that 2008 will be a busy year for Steven Erikson and The Malazan Book of the Fallen. Here’s what they have on tap:

February will bring the reissue of the series’ opening chapter, Gardens of the Moon, with the new cover art and an exclusive introduction, all for a bargain price to entice new readers to pick it up.

April will bring the paperback edition of Reaper’s Gale, and will include a teaser from Toll the Hounds.

June will see the release of the eagerly anticipated Toll the Hounds. For the very first time, this latest Malazan volume will get a hardback release. Indeed, the trade paperback of Toll the Hounds won’t hit the stores until the fall.

Even better, Steven Erikson will visit the UK around the publication of Toll the Hounds, and will thus attend bookshop signings, readings, and related events.

As if this wasn’t enough, the icing on the cake will be the publication of Ian Cameron Esslemont’s Return of the Crimson Guard, first as a limited edition from PS Publishing this spring, and then with the “official” release coming later in the summer.

All in all, quite a good year from Malazan fans!:-)

I know I’m not the only one excited for what’s sure to be a breakout year for Steve!

The real icing on the cake is Steve and Todd Lockwood signing Reaper’s Gale for fans via The Signed Page. hehe Just kidding. Although I am happy to have them again.

I wish Tor would do more for Gardens of the Moon. They should do a relaunch of the series, make their paperback cheap, and spend money online getting the info into people’s email inboxes and on website forums. *sighs*

Really cool year for him :) And he’s coming to the UK! Won’t be able to see him, of course, but I’ll try!

Yeah, I got this same email ;) So, I should be having some Erikson giveaways in the future and I really need to finish “Reaper’s Gale” so I can get ready for the next book!

Well it can only help his popularity.

What I found was that GotM was actually quite hard to get into as it dropped you in the middle of a massive war and introduced concepts (like Warrens) that I was not completely familiar with. Once past those issues though I fell in love with it an got to read all 7 books in a row within several months last year – bliss!

I have been wondering if its worth someone creating a bit of a primer for people who also find it hard to get into the series – or is learning the little bits and pieces about the warrens and such along the way all part of the fun? Hmmm…
