UK cover for me by quite some way, though the US version is easily better than the ones for the previous two novels, which were pretty dire.

Todd Lockwood, who has done the art for Lloyd’s US covers, used to be my favourite fantasy artist. Hands down.

Not so much anymore. I blame Tor, more than anyone. They always seem to be given nice art and manage to ruin it with poor layout and ugly fonts. Hell, even the art for The Bonehunters by Steven Erikson isn’t bad… but the cover made from it is horrendous!

UK cover is hands down the better cover – a very clean, modern design. Looks intriguing. US cover from Tor, okay…the image is a little over the top. And the fonts…ugly. I totally agree.

Why does the UK cover say it’s book I?
Does this mean it’s not really the cover, but a mockup?

oh, I see its a 3, sorry crappy resolution.

I like the UK version better too, as usual. I seem to prefer more panoramic (zoomed out) covers, instead of covers that look like a close up picture. Hopefully that made sense…

Hmm. I like the font and layout of the UK version better, no question. Can’t say I love the art for either one. The US art looks unfinished, and the man in the foreground keeps reminding me of Spock.

The UK version appears to be a photomanipulation, which is one of my least favorite art forms. It’s hard to do a photomanipulation without having it look cheap. A bigger version might look better, but the image isn’t promising. It’s an awfully bleak and uninviting scene, too. Maybe accurate to the novel’s tone — I haven’t read Lloyd — but it’s not something I’d pick up off a shelf.

(P.S. I love Lockwood’s art too, and totally agree about the fonts and layouts ruining it on a lot of covers. It’s such a shame.)

I like the art of the US release but the title treatment of the UK better.
