Both are nice. I prefer the UK one, though, mostly for its (intentional?) homage to the old John Howecovers for Robin Hobb’s Liveship Trilogy, which are some of my favourite covers ever.
I would like the UK version more if the sea-serpent’s mane wasn’t quite so Hair Bear/Phil Spector-ish. Love everything else about it, though. The US version seems to completely neglect the naval/maritime aspects of the series… unless what I’ve mistaken as shield is supposed to be a compass??
I definitely like the US cover more – I don’t know why, but the UK cover seems a bit amateurish to me. Not that the art is bad, but it reminds me of the older style of art on old D&D and 70’s/80’s fantasy novels, and I like the more modern look better.

I’m 85% sure that is a compass, and not a shield. I myself am a much bigger fan of the US cover. I agree with TankSpill about the UK cover. It seems very old school, and the old school art doesn’t really do much for me personally.
It has been a while but I think I like the looks of the US cover more than the UK version.

The UK cover is definitely better imo, if not quite as good as the covers to the first 2 books in the series.
