Well, we can put that one in the books! George R.R. Martin has confirmed that principal photography has been completed on A Game of Thrones, the television adaptation of his revolutionary A Song of Ice and Fire.

Martin on the next step in production:

Which is not to say the work is done. Now comes editing, special effects, scoring, and all the other behind-the-scenes stuff that makes up post production. The cast and crew get to go home for a while; for the producers, the road goes ever on and on.

And, geez… doesn’t it seem like just yesterday that we were hearing rumblings of HBO looking into the series? That casting was underway? That the pilot was written? And now the first season is done. I can almost taste the bloody show!

I’ve not read the books, but I am so looking forward to this. It’s got Sean Bean. How could I not want to see it?

No. It seems like a lifetime ago :( I’m so anxious to see the series I don’t know how I’ll cope until Abril. Seriously, air it already!

I’m really interested in this series (though I don’t particularly like the book), as I’m hoping that this series will be a launching pad for fantasy series to have a proper place on television. With all the focus on fantasy right now, after the success of Harry Potter and LotR movie series, it seems odd to me that no one has put forth a serious contender for the television market (no, “Legend of the Seeker” doesn’t count – that show (and Terry Goodkind) is a joke). There are also rumblings about “The Dark Tower” getting a movie/television shot, and a few screenwriters I’ve spoken with are putting out some original ideas that seem pretty promising too. Let’s make this show a success so we can see more like it!
