Looks like it. Shawn Speakman, blogger at Suvudu and webmaster for Terry Brooks, found an interesting quote about one of Stephen King’s upcoming projects:
King stated he will write another Dark Tower novel. It will center around supporting characters and revolve around some important events between Wizard and Glass and Wolves of the Calla. One fan asked him to make sure Oy comes back, and King said not to worry, that Oy would return.
Now, I’m as big a fan of The Dark Tower as anyone… but I don’t really see a need for King to expand the series in the form of a full novel. Short Fiction I would love, but the seven-volume series is absolutely perfect as it is.
Still, I’ll certainly be giving it a look as soon as I can get my hands on it. Cause I’m a sucker.

Read what I wrote on Suvudu. There is an additional quote from March 2009 where King elaborates a bit more possibly. The new Dark Tower novel very well could be a series of short fiction pieces interwoven into a narrative of some kind.
The area in question is right after Roland has told his new ka-tet what transpired in his youth and why he is the way he is. It sounds like Roland won’t be a part of whatever King is going to do, but it also sounds like his ka-tet could be involved. We’ll have to wait and see what he plans on doing.
Frankly, I’ve always thought the Dark Tower lent itself well to serialized storytelling. It’s why Marvel picked it up for new Dark Tower stories and obviously why King has another story to tell.
Looks like I’ll be able to do a reread in the next few years of my favorite piece of literature. :)
Neth, you should be reading the Marvel comic book series then because that is exactly what King is doing. :)
A collection of short fiction (both involving and not involving the Ka-tet) is something I could certainly get excited about. I rather he maybe explored other parts of the Universe, though, rather than empty spots of what’s already been told.
yeah, I’ll read the comics someday if I find the time, but right now I have to draw lines, so no comics.
I’d love to see the stories in longer form though.
I disagree. I always wondered why there weren’t nine books, since that is THE pivotal number thruout the series. Seemes very inconsistent to just have seven books. I think there would be few fans who would mind if more were written to fill out the missing stories so often hinted at, but never told.

Well, i guess i am similar to u guys a bigtime fan. But honestly, sometimes it’s just good to leave things as they are. The new Starwars series sucked! The new Lighthouse series makes me go byebye..

Personally, I’d like to see an 8th, 9th book based on events AFTER the 7th book. A retelling of the repeated journey of Roland and crew but from a different perspective, Randall Flagg’s perhaps? Following the story for the (hopefully) last time. This could bring about a REAL ending to the story, after all, he does have the Trumpet now doesn’t he.
