Steven Erikson, photo by Fazal MajidPat, from the wonderful Pat’s Fantasy Hot List (check it out!), just released details of a press release concerning Steven Erikson, his Malazan series, and all the fun stuff that will be going on in 2008!

Here’s what he had to say:

Erikson’s publicist just forwarded me a press release which indicates that 2008 will be a busy year for Steven Erikson and The Malazan Book of the Fallen. Here’s what they have on tap:

February will bring the reissue of the series’ opening chapter, Gardens of the Moon, with the new cover art and an exclusive introduction, all for a bargain price to entice new readers to pick it up.

April will bring the paperback edition of Reaper’s Gale, and will include a teaser from Toll the Hounds.

June will see the release of the eagerly anticipated Toll the Hounds. For the very first time, this latest Malazan volume will get a hardback release. Indeed, the trade paperback of Toll the Hounds won’t hit the stores until the fall.

Even better, Steven Erikson will visit the UK around the publication of Toll the Hounds, and will thus attend bookshop signings, readings, and related events.

As if this wasn’t enough, the icing on the cake will be the publication of Ian Cameron Esslemont’s Return of the Crimson Guard, first as a limited edition from PS Publishing this spring, and then with the “official” release coming later in the summer.

All in all, quite a good year from Malazan fans!:-)

I know I’m not the only one excited for what’s sure to be a breakout year for Steve!

Hot on the heels of the first graphic novel release by Terry brooks, Dark Wraith of Shannara (REVIEW), The Beat is reporting that Del Rey has announced that they will be releasing a graphic novel written by Diana Gabaldon, staring her famous duo, Claire Randall and Jamie Fraser.

This is exciting news to me, for I’m currently reading her first novel, Outlander, and it’s safe to say you’ll be reading a very positive review of it soon! I think Gabaldon’s version of Scotland is the perfect setting for a graphic novel, but I’m curious to see how they handle all the sex!

When I first began A Dribble of Ink I decided early on that I was going to keep most of my personal, writing life out of the picture. I wanted to present a professional publication that focused on bringing great content to my readers and not a tool to further my budding career as a writer.

I’m proud to say I think I’ve done quite well at this.

However, that itch to speak about myself and have an outlet to think outloud about my writing is still there and so I have created another blog, Mightier than the Sword as a means to flex my creative muscles and also let some of my readers, those who are interested, know more about me and my writing.

I hope it will be a fun, informative place where I can pontificate about my experiences as an aspiring writer, similar to what Shawn Speakman and many other authors are doing. I’ll be posting everything from Short Fiction, sample chapters and simple musings on writing over there, so if you think you’re interested, check it out HERE!

Shawn Speakman, that aspiring writer and terrific blogger, just posted the prologue to his current work-in-progress, The Dagda King.

Shawn explains the drive behind the story on his blog:

The Dagda King, which is a reference to the king of the British Isles Celtic gods, is an urban fantasy that takes place 1/3 in the homeless burrows of Seattle, 1/3 in the fey world of Avalon, and 1/3 inside the 108 acre confines of Vatican City in Rome. I already have two sequels very loosely outlined as well.

My main protagonist is an adult male—breaking away from the young protagonist motif that litters epic fantasy. Other point of view characters include a homeless “knight” in the dregs of his life, a Cardinal who is part of a secret society known as the Vigilo, Merlin in what I hope will be a very interesting take on a very old character, and an 18th century British second royal son who believes much is owed him after 300 years of doing his father’s bidding. I’ll get to discuss religious extremism, faith in oneself as well as in others, and the hardship and great things that come with being part of two different worlds. I’m excited about it, as you can probably tell, and I think it is a story people will enjoy.

Of course, the most fun part of this will be the Celtic mythology in the fey world. I am taking all of those gods and goddesses and weaving them into the story while remaining faithful to their origins. I think it will be this that draws interest from people, but time will tell.

If you’re interested, you can head over to his WEBSITE and download the prologue for yourself!
